The removal of a proportion of small, secondary branch growth from throughout the crown to reduce the density of foliage while maintaining a balanced structure.
Crown lifting
The removal of all or parts of the lower branches to leave clearance beneath the tree to a required height above ground level.
Crown Cleaning
The removal of dead, dying or diseased wood, stumps of broken branches, unwanted epicormic growth, ivy and rubbish collected in branch forks.
Pollarding
The removal of all limbs back to the growing point of the main stem.
Formative Pruning
Helping a young tree to mature free of physical weakness by removing competing leaders, and crossing or weak branches.
Dead Wooding
Removing dead wood from the tree, either still attached or hanging.
Crown re-shaping
The removal of part of the crown to improve the tree’s balance or safety, or to create a more desirable shape.
